Rules and Procedures 2021

What do we expect you to do?/What do you have to do to pass the course?

  • Presence and active oral participation: a maximum of two missing interactive slots during the semester. Since the course is online, we expect your participation. Should there be any technical problems, we will adjust this condition.
  • Participation in role-playing or panel discussion: You have to prepare the arguments for your role to play within one week. In every role-play, each role-group has a major speaker in the discussion (see Role-playing 2021). Each student has to be a major speaker for at least one time or be guest/moderator in the panel discussion.
  • Documentation on the blog: Each student has to prepare at least one post in the blog. You can freely choose your topic. This blog post will determine your grade.
  • Commenting: Each of you has to comment on the blog posts of a fellow student at least once. Please comment on the argumentation and the letter in general or show a different line of argumentation. Before you do so, please read the feedback rules.

Blog entry: the blog entry will be graded (mean based on the grading of at least two different lecturers) after the following criteria:

i. Length of the contribution: between 500 and 800 words
ii. Structure: clear statement, clear structure (methodology or argumentation)
iii. Language: good expression, clear expression
iv. Innovation: new thought, outside of what was discussed in the course
v. Suggestion: Moves the discussion forward within the course

Comment on the need of references: We encourage you to explore new ideas and concepts. However, we do not want these to be discussions unrelated to what has already been done. You do not need to substantiate every statement in your blog post, but your ideas should be framed by some (absolute mininum is one) references showing e.g. what is the state of the art, what is the gap, what encouraged you, why it is important to consider it, what are possible solutions,….

Oral participation: if your blog grade differs greatly from the positive impression you made during class (by at least 1.5 grade points between oral participation and blog post grade), we will increase your final grade by 0.5 grade point.

Here is what you need to do again in a nutshell:

  • not miss more than 2 interactive slots !!!!!
  • be the major speaker of a role-group in at least one role-play or be guest/moderator in the panel discussion
  • prepare at least one individual blog entry
  • comment at least once the blog post of someone else
