“From policy to practice: Translating climate science into actionable strategies”

Discuss the challenges and opportunities in turning scientific insights into policies and initiations that enhances meaningful climate action, by bridging the gap between research and real-world applications. One major challenge is aligning diverse stakeholders priorities while navigating political, economic and social barriers. However, the opportunities lies in leveraging strong, evidence-based framework to inform policy and drive innovation. Collaborative partnerships between scientists, policy makers and communities can foster shared ownership of  solutions, ensuring they are both effective and equitable, with transparent communication of scientific findings also playing a crucial role in building public trust and support for transformation of climate actions.

  1. Prof. Dr. Michael Brüggemann: “while everything that you write is true and well-thought through, it is much too abstract: you may pick a particular case study to make a more concrete point! Also a more general remark: scientific insights cannot somehow be translated into policies as science does only provide knowledge about what is and why and what could be the effects of certain paths of action – but the decision about both aims and which side-effects of certain solutions we want to tolerate and who will pay, bear the burden etc. all of these are political questions. Science alone can’t provide guidance here.”

  2. I think that this topic is suitable for the poster task. In my view, participatory approaches of (omnidirectional) knowledge transfer beween scientists and practitioners and collaborative work on solutions for mitigation and adaptation are very much needed. However, there are many challenges to these transdisciplinary approaches, and all good ideas for suitable formats for different societies are appreciated. For the poster, it will be important to formulate specific objectives and research questions.
