Poster Task 2026: Instructions, Grading, & Timeline

INSTRUCTIONS

Individual Task:
Design a poster that addresses the course question:
What are –or could be –our key contributions to researching and shaping climate futures?

Poster topic: Select one specific strategy of adapting to or mitigating global change (e.g., a regulatory intervention, specific consumer behavior, a nature-based solution).

Your poster should deal with
1) the knowledge/research which is necessary to support this strategy
and
2) an effective way to communicate/implement this strategy.

 

Group Organisational Task:
– Two poster sessions will be held on July 2nd and July 9th, where posters will be
exhibited and presented.
– You will work in groups to organise the two poster sessions; groups include Chair, Scientific Committee, Technical Team, Advertising Team, On-Site Logistics Team.
– Organisation of groups and tasks will commence on April 30th.

 

GRADING

Design (30 %)
➢ Follows format guidelines (A0, portrait orientation)
➢ Visual appeal
➢ Clear and organized layout
➢ Logical flow of information
➢ Text and graphics readable from 1-2 m
➢ Efficient use of space
➢ Correct formatting and orthography

Content (50 %)
➢ Relevant and appropriate content:
– Poster contributes to answering the central course question
– Poster addresses one specific strategy of adapting to or of mitigating
global change
– Poster deals with both: 1) knowledge/research which is necessary to
support this strategy and 2) an effective way to communicate/implement
this strategy. Both aspects do not need to be addressed equally.
➢ Clear structure of poster content: clear objectives, clear take-home
messages
➢ Good depth of coverage
➢ Correctness regarding content
➢ Usage of relevant literature
➢ Useful images/figures
➢ Figures intuitively comprehensible
➢ Appropriate references of sources
➢ Precise language

Poster presentation to poster visitors (20%)
➢ Precise, concise and clear oral presentation (2-3 min)
➢ Convincing and comprehensible “guided tour” through poster
➢ Able to competently answer questions

Due homework
16. Apr Think about what important components of the climate system are and of the social system(s) that in their interaction shape climate futures.
Draw a conceptual map of these components and their interactions on a paper. Bring it with you to the next class on April 16th.
23. Apr Read text about transformative science and rehearse notes about Pielkes role models(from the introductory class).
30. Apr Post first ideas for a poster (100-200 words blog post), comment one poster idea: 50-100 words
07. Mai Prepare 1st role-play
21. Mai Post proposal for poster topic including references (200-400 words blog post), comment one poster idea: 50-100 words
28. Mai Blog post on Desired Climate Future (you may work in pairs of two students writing one post together): best posts might be published on climatematters. Organize poster session.
04. Jun Prepare 2nd role-play; continue to work on poster. Organize poster session.
11. Jun Finish first draft of poster (digital and A4 printout). Organize poster session.
25. Jun Prepare final version of poster for poster clinic. Organize poster session.
02. Jul Poster Session event I
09. Jul present and discuss own poster, give feedback to fellow students
16. Jul Reflect and provide course feedback.

All groups: Please meet and start working in your task groups to advance the organization of our public poster session events.

Group 1: Most importantly, prepare a time and milestone plan covering the period until the poster session events.

Group 2: Discuss suitable rooms. Find out how to book rooms.

Group 3: Discuss who should be invited. How to announce the event?

Group 4: Discuss if you would like to serve food/drinks. We would provide a moderate budget for this.
